Matai Smith (born 2 May 1977 in Gisborne, New Zealand), is a Māori television presenter on the Māori Television, TV3 and TVNZ networks. He currently co-host the children's show Pukana,[1] an educational/variety show in the Māori language, hosts the show Whanau, a drama series that teaches the Maori language, and presents the weekly Maori language lesson on Good Morning and currently present Korero Mai with Gabriella Piringatai.[2]
He is of Rongowhakaata, Ngai Taamanuhiri and Ngāti Kahungunu descent.
He has won the Best Reo Māori Television Presenter (Male) at the Māori Media Awards.[2]
